Taking time to say THANKS

David Davenport, President & CEO – Yesterday I had the chance to visit at length with three very special AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers who all served here at the Food Bank this past year. Melissa, Meredith and Christine will soon be completing their service here and will be leaving behind an amazing legacy.
AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965 and incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs in 1993, VISTA has been on the front lines in meeting the challenge of poverty in America for more than 40 years.
CAFB has a tradition of outstanding and dedicated VISTA volunteers, and this class has certainly done its part to keep that tradition alive. Melissa, Meredith and Christine expanded and enhanced our special event partnerships, led efforts to build agency capacity and facilitated nutrition education for our community’s children and families. Each of these efforts changed lives and will leave a lasting impact on our organization and in our community. Their passion and commitment to the mission of our organization will also have a lasting impact on me personally – they are an inspiration.
Thank you, friends. You will be missed. Good luck in your continued efforts to make our communities, states and nation a better place by reaching out to those in need.
