Giving Thanks and Giving Hope – A Tale of Two Messages

December 9, 2010 § Leave a comment

For our friends who received this year’s “Turn Hungry Holidays into Happy Holidays” appeal, we’d like to say a special thank you for sharing with us what you’re thankful for this season. We love to hear about those special things that mean so much to our supporters.

Supporters like:

Al in Austin, who is thankful for “a good paying job”;

Dellare in Georgetown who is thankful for “living in this great country”;

Victor in Austin who is thankful for “the opportunity to help others”;

and Kathy in Cedar Park who is thankful for “1. financial hardship (keeps us humble), 2. financial blessing (to help with #1), 3. weight loss (a long prayed-for journey), and 4. Family, friends and faith.”

We also have quite a bit to be thankful for. This month alone, we’ve had unique opportunities such as the Walmart Facebook challenge and our partnership with Extreme Makeover Home Edition (happening this week), and every day, community members are dropping off food at our warehouse from food drives.

We appreciate every can and every dollar donated because we know first-hand what it means for the child, the single mom, the newly homeless family and the older adults who rely on our services. Your gifts give hope in a time when families in need hope the most.

Give hope this week: Greater Texas Federal Credit Union (GTFCU) and  KGSR 93.3 are holding their “Give Hope” holiday canned food and supply drive to benefit the Capital Area Food Bank and Foundation Communities.

Below is the Give Hope Wish List. Please drop off your donated wish list items now through December 13 at any of the following GTFCU branch locations:

  • Main Office: 6411 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX 78759
  • Airport Branch: 1180 Airport Blvd., Austin, TX 78702
  • Cedar Park Branch: 1600 N. Bell Blvd., Cedar Park, TX 78613

CAFB’s Give Hope Wish List:

  • Canned meats like tuna, stew and chili (pop-tops preferred)
  • Canned vegetables
  • Pasta & pasta sauce
  • Beans
  • Healthy cereals

  • Diapers (Adult & Children)

Join us and KGSR on Saturday, Dec. 11 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at their Main Office for a “last chance to donate” event. There will be a lot of great prize give-a-ways such as concert tickets and goodies.

We hope to see you there!
